What is Pedal for a Purposeš (P4aP)?

Pedal for a Purposeš is the vehicle for spinning energy into charitable gold. Through the P4aP program, cyclists pursue physical and social activity with the added satisfaction of raising funds for charity; nonprofits receive 100% of donations raised by their riders (without the expense of staging large scale fundraisers); and event organizers attract new and repeat participants with added motivation to ride. Pedal for a Purposeš offers a win-win-win proposition for cyclists, non-profits and ride organizers.

History

In 1994, one year after beating cancer, veteran cyclist Ellis Corets sought a charity ride to raise funds for cancer research. After collecting pledges and completing the ride, Corets was delighted to earn the distinction of top fundraiser, but was frustrated to learn that the organization's fund raising costs consumed most of the donations. He figured there had to be a better way. Corets came up with the idea of inviting riders to raise funds for the cause of their choice through organized bicycle rides. In founding Pedal for a Purposeš in 1999, Corets created an avenue for cycling enthusiasm to directly benefit charitable causes without the overhead costs nonprofits incur by organizing events themselves. Today, more than 50 nonprofit organizations benefit from Corets' vision.
